本品為白色、堅硬碎塊或顆粒，分子式為CaCl22H?O分子量為147.02，無臭，味微苦 。含純為97.2~103.0%。熔點782℃，沸點1600℃，密度2.15g/cm3（ 25℃）。氯化鈣在水中的溶解度很大，0℃時100克水能溶解59.5克氯化鈣，100℃時溶解159克。能形成含1、2、4、6個結晶水的水合物，無色立方結晶體，白色或灰白色，有粒狀、蜂窩塊狀、圓球狀、不規則顆粒狀、粉末狀。無臭、味微苦。相對密度2.15(25℃) 。熔點782℃ 。沸點 1600℃ 以上。
